I shot two cottontails just outside of Nanaimo and saw a few others.
Doesn't that depend on the region and local pockets that hold hares? The bunny cycle can't be that widespread. I'm in Region 5 just West of W Lake and two years ago, lot's of tracks and wily hares...last winter...maybe 1/4 tracks and lot's of Lynx in the area. I'm hoping they have left by now and populations bounce back.
What do fellas use to harvest them ,besides carrots ? Seriously though shotgun ?

.22 LR, headshots. Not pretty but no meat damage.
Cody: It's a pretty cool sidearm you got there. What is it?
Four Leaf Tayback: I don't know what it's called. I just know the sound it makes when it takes a man's life.

Frank, I never thought I'd say this again. I'm getting the pig!
Frank, we gotta get rid of this broad. I know a great place up the road. Lots of alligators.
Marvin: If there's one thing I know, it's women and covert operations.
Frank: Marvin, that's two things.
Han Cho Bai: No, grasshopper. It is not.
Was up in Princeton area - buddy and I got 10 in one day; we saw more but he's new and missed a few shots.
I'm curious because I finally got a 22 and got it dialed in... I've heard that when it gets cold and the snowshoes go white before the snow is an excellent time to go. Other than that, is there a best time of year (more now than later?) for rascally rabbits and is it the last light, then first light situation as with a lot of game?
I used to hunt them out of pg and the best times were season opener in the evenings, they would be hanging out on road edges and in late oct, early November as they turn white before the snow....always used .22 for road bunnies and the 12 ga for hunting the 10 to 15 year old cuts when they turn white. Lots of fun and good table fare.
thanks for the info tinhorse! I've never eaten one - I did get one a couple of years ago while on a grouse hunt and had it cleaned in the fridge at the cabin we were at for a few more days. The owner came up for the last couple of days and ate the rabbit for lunch while we were out hunting lol
First light and last light and walk the roads because they can be skittish. Spooked a bunch into the thick stuff this weekend even going dead slow in the SxS.
