Going to switch it up this year and try chasing Blues instead of Chukar. Anyone know what the cactus situation is in and around Mount Savona? Is there any?
thanks

There's always some cactus (prickly pear?) around the sage brush hills here. I recommend boots unless your dog knows how to avoid them and/or pick them out like one of my hounds.
Those little prickly pears are everywhere that the blues like, and they are a pain in the ass! I know, I’ve sat on one
Thanks so much, was hoping to ditch the boots for a while. I’m still in

I spent much of my teen years in Savona and roamed the mountain frequently. The top is cactus free as are the access roads to the East (off of Tunkwa) and west (from Guichon) once you are in the trees.
If you were to walk up the north face of mount Savona, from Haywood-Farmer Rd, you’ll be walking through cacti in any of the open areas.
If it cant be done with one shot, it shouldn't be done.

Thanks so much for the information, trying out a camping / hunting trip With the pup.

Chukars to blues? That’s like going from the big leagues to the minors. Why hahaha. Cactus low. Not so much up
I understand though I chase all the birds equally all season.
