    Band tailed pigeons?

    Whatever happened to band-tailed pigeons?

They used to visit northern Vancouver island when I was a kid and there used to be an open season on them at one time. Once in a while I'd see some in the interior but not any more.

This spring in Region 3 I saw a small group (couldn't call it a flock) of them for the first time in a long long while.

i believe they were hunted heavily down south where they migrated to for the winter when i was young it looked like the side of the mountain was moving when they took off

I see ten to fifteen every day at my neighbors bird feeder. I am on the south Island. Used to see lots out in the bush. The fact these birds are coming into bird feeders speaks volumes as to the poor logging practices down here. There is little for them to feed on out there. Pretty sad
