    Early season elk

    Hey Guys
Just wondering about elk activity during our 720 mu bow season sept 1-10. Are they calling? What are your chances vs rifle season and peak rut to call an elk in.
I think i know the answer as some like to hunt pre rut leading up to peak. Alot of variables but whats your experiance.

Any group of cows i have found in early september had at least 1 bull big or small. Earliest response for me was aug 25-28th and he was with cows. Less action but there is still action. bulls should be in staging areas and/or looking for cows and if not they should be interested in hearing cows or bugles.

Don't want to take away from this thread, but kind of on the same topic.

Planning to do a bow hunt early sept in reg.4 in an area where we generally hunt the last week of the season in Oct.

Never hunted early season elk, but I'm assuming I won't be finding them in the usual spots I get in to them in October, any pointers on terrain/what kind of areas to be focusing on.

Yes near the thickest shit you can find. They like to keep cool during hot weather.

Early in the season they tend to stay up really high from my experience, numerous times I've seen them even above goats.

Had a feeling, elevation ever play a part in that? I find the thickest spots tend to be lower in valleys where there's heavier concentrations of water.

Which part of reg 4? Might be able to point you in the right direction.
