Moose Group Hunt Region 4 - 08

Hi Members,

We (myself and two sons) were lucky enough to draw a group moose hunt near our home town Nelson. Pretty excited but we have never moose hunted (anywhere) before and typically hunt elk areas locally and rarely have come across moose. I've seen them by Ymir and Salmo by the road and wondering whether anyone is willing to share some local knowledge whether these areas are worth scouting or suggestions of other areas to try?

Also, we are hunting Oct 15 - Nov 15 and if we locate moose this summer and early fall, will they likely be found in the same locations? I believe this is after the rut but can you still call them in this late in the season?

For elk we often use salt licks through the summer to locate the elk - does this work for moose?

Baiting in reg 4 is now banned. Dont put out licks for moose.

I have found in the south part of the province the rut starts end of september..

Calling is probably your best bet in an area you have seen them. Once the rut is done bulls go and hide.. usually by Nov 1
