Problem bear has encounter with innocent citizen

Seems silly that a CO plan to destroy a problem bear was railroaded in favour of a helicopter relocation, only for the alternate plan to ultimately lead to a random hero having an encounter that lucky for him/her didn't end in them being eaten. Love the total underreporting of their encounter.

Me thinks it must be getting a little crowded with Grizz on the mainland, so they are needing to expand out to more territory. Ya thinks maybe a Grizz hunting season would help mitigate the problem?

    This quote from the article:

He said grizzlies had only started swimming over to the Broughton Archipelago islands in the last couple of years. During that time, conservation officers had shot and killed another grizzly that made a similar swim to nearby Kingcome Inlet.

what a waste of money... and risk to public safety...

that money could have been better spent a lot of places and was the trashy cabin owner fined? sure should have been.

    It's funny,
    Article says :
"The young male bear, named Mali, prompted concerns about its habituation to humans after it found a cabin with garbage on an island and started scrounging for food. "

    And a link below
    "
B.C. First Nation feeds hungry grizzlies 500 salmon carcasses"

We have reached a new level of stupid in this province

You fail to grasp the concept. It wasn't anywhere near humans or human attractants like a dump.

"The nation's Guardian Watchmen Manager, Jake Smith, had a local hatchery donate approximately 500 salmon carcasses and members of the nation took the fish to estuary areas where grizzlies are known to feed."

Agree 100% with your comments. I couldn't help but notice the group pushing for relocation run an eco tourism business and are allied with an Enviro group. Do you think there might be a bias or conflict of interest here. And when it all falls apart, the groups justification is that this is part of "reconciliation". Really! These two groups should back off and let the CO's do their job. They are Pro's at what they do and have lots of experience dealing with problem bears. The CO's do not want to destroy these bears but are left with little latitude based on their past experience, and the need for public safety. This is only going to get worse, until groups like these and the general public get the message that in a lot of situations bears have over populated the remaining habitat they have and without good management practices like reinstating the Grizzly hunt more bears will be destroyed either legally or illegally.
