    Lake trout success

Finally got out to do some lake trout fishing. Our group did well Tuesday with 3 fish and I caught the only fish today. 7lb, 6.75lb, 6lb and a 3lb lake trout. The round things in the sink are the cheeks. It is a 1.5km walk to the honey hole!! So 6kms of exercise.(and then come home and nap for an hour.)LIG

Never tasted Lake Trout. How are they? What do they compare too? Not crazy about the taste of Rainbows, but like Brookies.

Looks like 3 different species, but isn't.

I can never get over the differences in Laker's out of the same lake, nevermind the same hole

The 2 were chock full of kokanee. Some lakers are long and skinny and others are short and fat. Bite was slow. They all turn a lighter color if they stay wet in the garbage bag.
Lake trout are an oily fish. I like the belly fat and skin crisp. I always harvest the cheeks. Fried in bacon grease or butter. They are great smoked too. Now to find a burbot lake.

You probably won't like lake trout, they are palatable if under 7 or 8 lbs .... pale whitish meat and the fat is gross . Smoking is the best option .
Bull trout are probably the best eating trout right behind kokanee

Lake Trout are actually a CHAR fish just like Eastern Brooks are - Not trout - They are a lot oilier then a Rainbow Trout and some people really like them ! RJ
