Man Grouse are just the perfect made bird for eating so easy to dress and they look so good in that tailgate pic step on wings, pull feet, cook. I need to do more grouse hunts hard with how hellbent I am about getting an Elk though

I hear ya...last year I passed on about 100 grouse and only shot 1 lol.. now my son gets to shoot all the small game.. FYI on grouse there is also a good bit of meat on the top of the legs..

Shoulda saved it though he had a nice one too. No not cracking it is usually the teeth that crack and that is typically from extreme temp changes, example being taking it out of hot water in cold winter. With high temperatures like boiling or simmering you will clean the skull quickly of flesh (probably the quickest way), but also run the risk of cooking grease into the bones and then it is really hard to get out. This is especially problematic with carnivores and greasy animals like Bears, some ungulates can too but not as common.

Almost certainly what has happened with my wolf. After doing a few skulls not the ideal way, I looked into it for a while for the best/safest for bone way for me to do it. Its got some pretty bad stains, going to have to continue degreasing after the season here

I just rip the breast out too. Is there a method you use to get the other meat?

I just cut the legs off and break the foot off at the joint. The legs are my favorite. Darker and greasy, like the KFC of the woods.

I cook them whole and just pick at it with my teeth. Makes me feel like a caveman

Bit of an art though. I wouldn't give one to a guest as there's so many small bones and tendons

Just cut off the legs and remove the meat off the top of the legs and your good to go!

Should've had my second Bear of the season, and my target of 2 a year. Guy I was with is not much into Bear and didn't want any part of it. Then the next 2 days we had planned together he couldn't make it, won't be passing up again that's for sure. They can watch and wait and we won't split it i'm fine with that.
