    Ring necked ducks

A pond I drive by to go hunting almost always has a few ducks on it. Usually mallards, but today I think they were ring necked ducks. I can't find anything specific about them, and have never duck hunted. Was thinking it wouldn't hurt to get a waterfowl license and a box of steel shot for the old 870, try to jump shoot a duck or two.
But I'm not sure I can hunt em, and not sure I want to want to eat em!
