Just imagining all those ticks crawling from the cold deer to the warm sleeping bag. Just kidding!! I would leave that sleeping stuff in the freezer for a week in a garbage bag, bring it out shake it around and put it back in. They hibernate and come awake when it warms up.
Nice deer, great story. Helps having good friends for the adventure too!

    Great buck and awesome story!

But honestly, I gotta suggest learning the gutless method and being prepared with packs and game bags next time, your recovery would have been easier and faster.

But seriously, well done, what a great story, and pretty funny, too!

Amazing how heavy deer can be to drag when it is just plain flat or even slight little up hills when there is "no snow".
Even with 2 people it is a slow go!
I even tried once by myself, alone, and could barely move the damn MD.

And yes, a 3 KM is a long way to pull one out...think I would have deboned...lol.

Anyways, good on you to have a spot to yourself (crossing rivers) to harvest such a great buck!
Sounds like you have a great spot and congrats, especially the hard work and great friend to help you get it out!

    Awesome deer and story -

I bought a pack frame and learnt how to break up a deer properly after a similar drag out.

Quality game bags have lasted me over five years.

Very beautiful buck! Nice hunt! Have you ever though of de-boning the deer? I did that many time and it is much easier to take them out of the wood!
