    Fangs on Deer

Doing up a euro mount on my deer from yesterday and came across two fangs. Apparently it's rare but not uncommon. Anyone ever see this? Indicator of age or anything?

Poor guy had a broken tooth on the other side too. I'm sure it caused him some issues.

I’ve heard that it’s an evolutionary throw back. The ancestors of modern deer are thought to have had fangs rather than antlers. Look at the muntjac deer, they have fangs instead of antlers.

    Sabre tooth deer.

I wonder why nature grew these - to help strip leaves from branches? Maybe this is a new evolution to pop open beer cans at the hunter's camps.

There must have been a reason for this. Cool discovery.

Looks more like a mineral deposit build up from a gland or something... like a kidney stone or gall stone forms

I did see a horse chomp, chew and swallow two chicks (chicken) that were pestering him as he was feeding. Deer eating meat? Well, opportunist will eat what's available. Steady Vegan diets are pretty boring so I guess once in a while even deer feel the need to go Neanderthal. Cool.
