    6.5 Creedmoor ,6.5x 55 swede ,260 Remington

I admit a liking for the venerable 6.5x55 Swede ,they just get the job done very efficiently with little fanfare. Shot a lot of deer with it, low recoil and if I do my job,it does its very handily.Lately there’s been some press for the newest Offering - the 65 Creedmoor and before that the 260 Remington.Tradeex generally has a good supply of very fine rifles at a fraction of new rifle costs allowing new shooters to go hunting without breaking the budget and Czech ammunition is readily available for under $30 a box.Apart from owning the latest whiz bang, what if any advantage do either of these cartridges have over my 120 year old swede? I know campfire arguments come close to blows over ‘favourite’ deer rifles but it seems to me some of these old cartridges have earned their right to stay in production while many others have come on with great fanfare and then disappeared off the shelf.

I love my swede. Especially since noler loads premium ammo. Not much I seconditions guess myself with when it comes to the swede.

Only downfall is g-bears (don't really worry about those even in grizzly country) and old worn out m96 actions.

‘Old worn out m96 actions’?...the Swedes I bought from Tradeex might be nearly 100 years old but are in EXCELLENT condition..I shoot some Norma premium ammunition, but quite frankly the $26 Serb PPU ammunition is accurate and drops deer right in their tracks ,or if not most only go less than 50 yards if I do my job.We shot two mule deer a couple of weeks ago, one was hit head on in the brisket, travelled full length just under the spine and exited just under the top of the ham,it dropped in its tracks. The other was hit broadside just back of the shoulder ,ran less than 50 yards and dropped dead. I’ve seen deer hit with a 7mag that ran a lot further. The Swede 6.5x55 140 gr seems just the right mix of velocity and bullet weight for deer and black bear.Ballistically, it is virtually identical to a 270 after 100 yards ,but the higher SD gives it the edge on larger animals

If it weren’t for having some inherited big bores, I would hunt exclusively with my Swede and 140gr pills. If a persons looking for a short action tho, I believe the 260 has that. I’m not familiar with the creed... the Swedes never give me reason to be .

My wifes Winchester Featherlight 6.5 x 55 is a tack driver. I’m loading 140gr in it and it shoots like a dream.

Yeah, given my druthers I’d have Tikka too, but my M96 with a Leoold M8 4x really doesn’t give me an excuse to go buy one..a new guy can outfit himself with a very fine hunting rifle from Tradeex, nice walnut stocks( although I have synthetic on mine)and scope it for not a lot of money ,pick up a few boxes of Privil Partizan ammunition and be second to nobody.Great first rifle for a kid, too. Light recoil and superbly accurate and take anything in North America

I have 2 6.5x55s, one new built on a 98 commercial action the other an old warhorse with a 96 action. Both shoot very well, accurate with little recoil. when you consider the Swede has probably killed as many moose(European Elk) as any caliber you really can't say much against it.

Have a custom Carl Gustav 1900 in 6.5 x 55 that will put 10 shots of 140 grain factory bullets into a ragged hole @ 100 yards. Would not hesitate to shoot anything in B.C. Rifle was built by Eddy Mech of Guncraft (no longer) in the early 70's..https://imgur.com/NYrgaRi

Take a Tradex Mauser with Privi ammo out to 700 yards and compare it to a ______ in 6.5 Creedmoor and see where things line up
