We recently acquired a 2yr old female English Coonhound.
She's a bit of a princess and has been spoiled - access to human food and climbing all over furniture etc. She was an inside dog and didn't spend much time in the woods or mountains - we hope to change that. She is stubborn, but seems like a smart dog and is just vibrating with energy when in the woods smelling deer tracks.
It's my hope to train her to run off leash and simple obedience (come when called, listen etc).
Our previous dog was a lab/rhodesian ridgeback who was relatively easy to train (we got her when she was 8mos old and was easy to get her to follow commands).

Anyone have any tips or real experience in working with coonhounds in particular? I suspect that as a hunting dog we've missed the window of trainability, which is okay by me - I just want a dog that listens and I can take out in the woods.
