I’m usually thinking the exact opposite. I’d like to pack one gun between two guys. The logistics doesn’t work if you happen to split up for any reason. Lol

I think the perfect answer is no gun, take a bow

Bow does both small and big game quite well, just carry one arrow with a judo point

But to answer the OP's question, I only carry a second gun when Im in the truck or occassionally on the quad. When im on foot gun hunting, its either big game (7mm-0 or small game (shotgun or .17Hmr)

I always carry Slugs, buckshot and birdshot when Im duck or grouse hunting, got some of them for the 20 the 16 the 12 and the 10ga so always covered. But the little badger I must say has added substantially to my harvests becuase its always there. Its not a perfect gun when you get it but it can be dressed up real nice with a red dot and at 3 pounds and folding it fits in any bag, even my smallest day pack.
