What do you use for grouse?

My son and I were out riding our motorcycles this weekend here he is with his new to him KLX140G dirt bike and his Rem 870 Youth 20 gauge first grouse he has ever shot with it.

I was out for an early morning deer hunt + was running my dogs this morning.

Saw a deer gut pile but no live deer I did see a couple grouse so I popped one at 70 yards used my 14" barreled T/C Contender carbine in 338JDJ #2 loaded with 200gr SST's @ 2350fps yes smacked it in the neck.

Funniest post I have ever read...

I have not noticed significant runout, mind you, after a few brews I lose interest in measuring...

I've shot a few with my Ruger 10/22 but took a liking to Mossberg Maverick 88 12 gauge with #4 - #5, 1 & 1/8oz shot... works much better for winging them and shooting them out of trees than the 22

always used a 12 gauge mod choke and 7 1/2...trick was to aim high and only get the head with a couple of bb's....know your spray pattern and you will not be picking lead out of the meat...

ps….always nice to see the next gen of hunters

I kinda liked the way my late Father In Law used to hunt them - with a hockey stick.
He would say "they don't call them fool hens for nothing."
