Classic thread. Took me two cups of coffee to get through it. Great read.
Well too bad you didn't stick the 6x6... but your time in was sounding like a blast!
its almost better to work hard and not succeed then it is to be lucky and have the job done on day 1...... life is the shits when there is nothing to chase!
Sounds like an awesome season of hunting so far!
No rest for the wicked.. told a rookie exactly where and when to go sit.. got a pacicked phone call at dark.. i got a buck and a doe and need help..
Toss on the bush pants, out the door..
10 minutes later i am on site..
He was sitting and a spike buck came out, bang flop.. 2 minutes later a doe ran up to the buck.. bang flop. (I told him to buy 2 tags)..
Here is where it gets interesting...
He got to the buck, lifted the legs to gut and theres no boy parts.. yup he shot an antlered doe and a normal doe..
Gutted both by headlamp, had them both into the truck and on his way home by just after 800 mtn time.. if totally rattled him that the buck had no penis, he was concerned he had technically killed 2 does in a 1 doe season...
Talked him off the ledge when i explained it was antlered or antlerless, not buck and doe...
Went to bed..

Had today off so made plans to take my 85 year old buddy out for a drive..
Picked him up at 8 sharp.. he bought a used gun and clip was not even loaded.. as we leave driveway i told him he has 10 minutes to load it before he has to shoot.. he rolled his eyes and loads it.. gi down same road as the double kill last night and bingo.. big dry solo doe.. bang flop.. 810.. had it gutted and in truck by 820..
Drove around for an hour or so, saw another 8 does and a spike.. did not shoot spike as he said it was too small and theres a month of buck season again.. got it back to his pkace, skinned and in his cooler by 1030..
All in all, a good couple days..

Great read Rock, your intensity is awesome. Super wife you must have to let you play so often, now better fix that head gasket so you can do it again next year.
Good luck on the rest of your season and Congrats.
Such a positive piece of hunting stories. You have created oral histories that will be passed around, this is what hunting is all about.
Sidenote, is the head drop off in effect, I’ve heard and read conflicting views.
