    Talking Chetwynd intel?

Fellas. The shit end of the stick again with the ol’ LEH leads our group to seek an alternate to our old spot in the PG area. Browsing google maps, the synopsis, and largely dated posts here, we’ve decided to go a little further north. Someone had the idea to head up near Chetwynd, given that theres opportunity at most of the tasty critters, in one configuration or another. We are primarily lookin for meese, and are fine counting points etc. Getting a crack at an elk or some deer is great too, but not imperative. Should have two quads/sturdy boots and a canoe etc. We have been eyeballing north of Moberly, but are in the dark when it comes to access, logging, burns, floods, and whatever else might cause frustration. Any friendly suggestions are appreciated. Oh, and this will be the third week of Sept thru the first week of Oct.

    Cheers in advance!

You guys should just fly blind. Pick a few roads and cover ground untill you see a area that you like. Then Make camp. It’s a busy place so your plan a b c might get thrown out the window quick

Pretty sure FN hit that area pretty hard. 7-35 would also be a good area. Lots of road access due to all the oil and gas, it does get a little busy

    Re: Chetwynd intel?

This was our plan C last year so we went there last fall. Big mistake and we should have stuck with our earlier plan. It was insane with pipeline activity to the West where you are wanting to go. They were digging up huge areas, cranes, bulldozers, helicopters and work vehicles including UTVs and quads. Several hundred and I am not exaggerating!! Counted 187 vehicles with workers heading off from work towards town one day. Each vehicle had between two and five people in them. We needed an escort to drive certain sections of roads due to equipment activity. On the plus side, the works crews were very friendly and accommodating. Spots we had camped in the past were cleared to make massive work yard staging areas. Only place I have seen more activity from humans has been…..downtown Vancouver....and I hate downtown Vancouver!! Not sure what is happening that way this year but have heard from a friend in Ft. St. John that the Moberly bands want more areas closed to hunting which has not happened so far. I understand some roads have been posted as closed due to Caribou protection but this info comes third hand so who knows. Unless someone from our group is able to scout the area before we leave for our hunting, we will be going elsewhere. We do not want to go there and risk a repeat of last year.

Avoid the area from Stewart LK to Taylor, crazy activity in there last season. You could check out Murray Ridge north of Hudson Hope? I have been up there in years but it used to be productive.

Last year our Plan B was Elk/Moose in the Peace. We ended up camping at Stewart Lake (MU 7-32) for 10 days late Sept and early Oct. Campsite was nice but lots of others there. Area is thick and have to get off beaten path as roads are busy with hunters on quads. Did not see and elk, seen a couple of moose but nothing with right antler configurations. Not aware of any animals being harvested by any of the other groups.
