    Simplistic ‘animal rights’ results

Probably the most successful animal rights campaign in history shut down the east coast seal harvest,as Canada was made to be international pariahs for allowing the ‘cruel’ seal harvest...the government bowing to pressure went along with it..well they succeeded alright, the seal harvest stopped and the seal population exploded from 8000 to 400,000...but guess what?seals eat cod, lots of cod and it looks like the dwindling cod population, already in trouble from over fishing was now running the gauntlet from the huge seal population...looks like the cod are now at the point of extinction, but hey,we ‘saved the seals’,didn’t we? Yah,that’s the EAST coast ,but the same scenario is playing out on the WEST coast...salmon stocks, under pressure through gross mismanagent are facing an equally huge increase in predation- seals and no government is going to have the balls to do anything other than’study’ it...

in 1980 for middle school English class I did a pro seal hunting speech to the class then,,,IIRC there were more than 3 million seals gathering on 2 islands in the north with an estimated 1.2 million pups..the harvest was around 180,000 at that time IIRC

Once the Cod are gone, what are the Seals going to eat? So the Seal population will undoubtedly drop. DFO brilliant management at work again.
