    Not a google job.
Watched enough documentaries about salmon, read "The Behavior and Ecology of Pacific Salmon and Trout" textbook that is part of marine biology curriculum years ago, etc.
    Love the topic.
Actually there is a good documentary by a BC filmmaker Leon Lorenz, called The Journey Home of the Chinook Salmon that is available on Amazon if you are interested.
I bought this years ago when you could buy in on DVD from the Fresh water fisheries BC.
    One of a kind documentary.
It explains a lot about the Fraser river bound Chinook salmon, where they go, how they get there and obstacles they face.
    Pretty amazing.

    Meateater podcast, #112. Salmon biology...

Goes into detail about lifecycles and freshwater/saltwater time. For example, coho spend first two years in fresh water and leave fresh water at about 6" length and then enter the ocean. They feed and grow like crazy and return the NEXT year to spawn being up to 15lbs in weight and over 2ft long.

Danny 29 you are 100% correct about the hydraulic actions.
Second from the bottom to pinks?
There is a reason why chum spawn in the lower parts of the rivers....
Coho stay the freshest? Guess our early Fraser Chinook that enter in the early spring and spawn in the late summer early fall don’t stay that fresh...

Usually once I first detect that "white fat puddling" beginning to happen on a filleted salmon, its basically ready to take off the grill.
Best way I do it is make a "cookie sheet" out of aluminum foil.
Fillet salmon, pull out the side pin bones with pliers.
Marinate in a "secret sauce" (I may share if asked nicely).

Once grill is up to temps. place salmon, skin side down, on tin foil tray.
(add my sauce over the top)
    Cook.
Then use the spatula between the meat and skin!!!
    Works awesome!
Skin stays adhered to tin foil tray (its burnt to it) and you are left with just the meat.
    Tonight's dinner:

Sockeye is the most overrated fish out there, I’ll take a 15# Chinook all day for the barby. And a mid twenties for smokin. Can have your dry sockeye, if I want to make candy I’ll whack some coho...
The only advantage to a light rifle is it's weight, all other advantages go to the heavier rifle..

I will second that... but push it a bit... id rather a 12lb winter spring. 15# fish are perfect you can cut them into a proper portion size... I just like the fat content of the Winters. Sockeye is too dry

I've never eaten a salmon that's too dry.
    When I cook it.

Ive personally seen natives bring in hundreds of pinks in there nets and leave them to rot on the sandbar. Almost got in good fight with one group cause im not one to sit there quietly. Im sure there ancestors would be disgusted.

Edit im not saying want and waist is specific to natives.
I have heard the statement "it is not waste...it is an offering back to mother nature" cough cough...hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
