There is always somebody who wants to "make a lot of money" from resources.
We need to move away from the global economy and people need to protect their resources for themselves.
    1. Human over population
    2. Government burden and overreach

I agree with the concept you are saying for sure.
However, things like salmon for example are a bit harder to ensure the resource for us.
Slamon don't stay in a pond, they hit the oceans and travel into many jurisdictions by many countries.

We can grow all the salmon we want, but once they hit the ocean, well, that's another story.
And then, the few that do seem to come back, you and I cant have any (the direction things are going) because you and I lack status due to
race and color, again, the way it is going.

But hey!, we get to "flip the bill" and pay higher taxes every year!!!
    Fun isn't it!
Paying for free loaders is the new - new!!

Re: Huge Chinook runs in California

That how we killed the big salmon in 50 years thing was a great watch..... sad as hell but true...... The thing people forget tho, everything back then was killed for market.. people didn't have fridges and ways to just go to the store....
that's not an excuse but it is a part of an explanation.....

The shitty thing is...... We can turn it around simply but there is always someone sitting there on a podium stopping it..... Natives can have theirs, Commercial can have theirs, and so can us sporties.... but everyone is too busy fighting instead of standing up against the " totally uneducated city slicker bleeding heart destroyer of all" And we made DFO do what they are supposed to.....

    Pred control... seasl mergansers etc
Stream survival, Water PH, logging to the edge, flow control both winter high and summer low.
    Hatchery involvement,, funding......
Stream rehab , cleaning up, making spawn channels ....
ocean survival,, regulating fish farms and proper fisheries management......

Why did the states have such a huge run?...... Simple.... it was a free pass BC at the expense of thousands of lives in a govt movement for reciprocity to hand it over to FN........ and still do F uck all

If the Californians can do it,so can we -if we were organized and had the political will.We know exactly what to do, put more fish in the system,(like the sooke volunteers )enhance streams and protect the fish from predators .Make west coast salmon an election issue and VOTE

havent the US been knocking down a bunch of old dams and weirs in order to increase fish populations over the last 10 years or so?
There's a big push by different groups and agencies to renew fish runs all over the US

And then those government idiots decided in their infinite wisdom to wreck the water control dam volunteers built on Demanuel Creek to ensure enough water in the pools for smolts....if there was an earthquake powerful enough to level Victoria ,then the. Dam might collapse and cause flooding downstream...
the same idiots closed the campground at Jordan river because the same earthquake might breech the upstream dam..
