I do feel we have to start to push back on the nets.
Yes, I blame dams and poorly managed rivers to a large degree for sure.
But nets at this time is going to be the end of Steelhead and who knows what else one day.
I like the hay bale way of starting to push back.
    Might be illegal.
But then hey, blocking a road and being armed is just as illegal, imo.
    But it worked for them.
Time to make it work for us!

Actualy fishtraps were pretty good ,way better than cross river gill nets that took everything ,they could select what they wanted and let the rest go

Yes if all aboriginal and commercial fishing was done this way there would be no problems with the wasteful "bycatch". Imagine a river like the Vedder with millions of marked hatchery fish that could be caught in traps and all wild and non targeted species released unharmed. Then replicate that system on other rivers. Virtually all wild fish would get to the spawning beds and the marked hatchery fish would get to market or a food fishery or sport caught. User groups wouldn't need to point fingers and the numbers would get bigger every year

    Exactly guys ^^^^^.
Remove the nets and by-product catches all at the same time.
That's about the only way we are going to be able to "sustain" species for the future.
Anything less will be futile, imo.

I think fishtraps would address much of all parties concerns and interests and frankly they are way more efficient as well as selective. If everybody sat down together I think we could come up with viable solutions
