"brow tine" means the first lateral branch, of an antler of deer, elk, moose or caribou, that projects forward and occurs in the lower one third of the antler;
It's 8, but as has been seen recently, shooting an 8 year old ram on age can be a risky proposition. Looks like it has the yearling nub, so should be good. Highly doubt the 8th annulus was visible when it was shot with hide though. Shooting on age everyone's minimum should be 9, even with high confidence based on recent events.
Ya the sheep looks 8 to me, but I think it would be hard for me (rookie sheep Hunter) to confidently judge 8 on that on a live animal unless I could somehow get a look at the top side of the horns and see an obvious dark ring underneath ring #7. I definitely would have a hard time taking my first ram based on age only if it looked like that.
first of all awesome thread
for some reason i was under the impression that spike fork couldn't be more than 2 on one side and couldn't start palming on the other side. reading the regs i don't see that anywhere not sure where i got that.so basically if im not mistaken as long as you have 2 point or less on one side it doesn't matter how big the other side is?
this is what confuses me looks like it cant be bigger than 3 point on one side
1.would need to see his right side looks like i might see a 3rd piont but on that pic wouldnt shoot
2.looks like a spike on his right again wouldnt shoot unless get better angle of right side
3.wouldnt shoot looks to be broken from what i can see
4.this one is strange def would need to see the other side. so no on this angle

I really appreciate that you have all respectfully weighed in. Let's keep this going in this direction. There are a lot of rules that we have "inherited" or read in ourselves. I think that this thread is a great way to expose all of us with our biases, opinions and pre-conceived notions. I'm loving your answers and questions, and the especially the honesty. I have to admit, I'm having a hard time biting my tongue right now, but this is a great excercise for all of us. Great job, keep em coming.
