    Trekking poles?

My knees are not in great shape and Im thinking about trekking poles for hiking.
Are the high end poles worth the money or can you get away with a 60$ pair from Amazon.
Anyone have any stories or opinions or a brand or model you would recommend.
Im 5' 11" 230lbs and will be in mountainous ground.

I have used trekking poles for at least 10 years now. They are indispensable for me, especially when hauling large loads down hill.

Id recommend getting the best you can afford. High end poles are strong, and more importantly, light weight. They will last for years as well.

I’ve only used the Costco ones so can’t comment on other models but I would not have been able to hike out last season after I rolled my ankle pretty badly without them. I will not go in the woods without them. Most of the time they are strapped to my pack but when you need them, they are great.

    CF being carbon fiber?
That's cheap. What are the locks like?
That is my main concern being a bigger guy.

Trying out the costco set for this year. I've had a Kelty set with twist locks , but they aren't holding together well anymore.

Haven't had CF poles but I've heard that you need to be really careful with them because if you nick them they lose their structural integrity. As I say I don't know whether this is true or not but I've had CF fly rods explode on me when they have gotten damaged from sitting in a boat or dinging a rock.
Cody: It's a pretty cool sidearm you got there. What is it?
Four Leaf Tayback: I don't know what it's called. I just know the sound it makes when it takes a man's life.

Frank, I never thought I'd say this again. I'm getting the pig!
Frank, we gotta get rid of this broad. I know a great place up the road. Lots of alligators.

Marvin: If there's one thing I know, it's women and covert operations.
    Frank: Marvin, that's two things.
Han Cho Bai: No, grasshopper. It is not.

I also use the Costco ones and I put on ALOT of miles. No comparison to others but the locks seem to hold well; even when getting up with over 100lbs in the pack. Mine have been through 3 seasons; they click on rocks because the metal wore through, are all scratched up and have very little of the cork handles left due to rodents. It takes awhile to get used to using them and I don’t use them every hike but certainly nice to have coming out heavy.
