A Qualicum Beach man was convicted and sentenced April 4 for guiding for fish without a angling guide licence. The individual was fined a total of $11 500, prohibited from holding a non-tidal fishing licence and prohibited from being in the company of people fishing in non-tidal waters for 5 years.

The man was charged after a 2017 operation by the Conservation Officer Service Special Investigations Unit following numerous public complaints. This is the individual’s third conviction for the same offence in 4 years.

Illegal angling guiding can threaten sensitive fish stocks. The public is encouraged to report illegal guides or any other violation of the Wildlife Act to the Conservation Officer Service at 1-877-952-RAPP (7277).

Was fined $10,000.00 2017, $10,500.00 this April. Question is, have these fines been paid.
