No need to go extreme just for a day hiker boot or shoe
Vasque, Merrel, Zamberlan all make light synthetic traction soles
Possible to get by with trail runners or approach shoes ?
Does she need an ankle brace or support ? Support can be had in a 5" tall boot

Fritz's in Penticton was helpful one day, and another regular stop is Robertsons in Kelowna, then Red Top Shoes in Vernon, all on your way north

Diana's monogramming in the north end of Vernon has a good selection of boots, and carries quality Canadian made boots and other made in Canada stuff.

I run zamberlan vioz gt and Tofanes.. amazing boots, best things to ever grace my feet.

The vioz lasted me 5 years of hunting fishing and winter !! Before I decided to upgrade to the tofane, just because I wanted to, not because I needed to.

Ive tried hanwags, red wing, soloman, timberland and scarpas and none compare to the quality or comfort. The ankle support on the vioz is insane.

Just my two cents as an avid female backpacker. I have been using Oboz and I couldn't be happier.
