Back when I was a young fellow. 50 or so years ago there was a $6 a nose for a seal. That was 3 hours work for most loggers. They weren't that easy to shoot because they were leary of people. A few years ago I was going salmon fishing with a friend of mine around Texada Is. He said to make sure I turned the clicker off on my reel because the 50 or so seals that were pulled out on the rocks, would bail off the rocks as soon as they heard the reel screaming. I forgot to turn the clicker off and as soon as the reel started screaming the seals bailed off the rock looking for my fish.
You can’t fish Possession point off Sooke without a couple of seals sliding off the rocks and swimming right behind the boat, much less land a salmon .Theyre right on it .Its like tossing a dog a bone
Nope, never happened when we had a bounty on seals nose, you couldn’t get within a quarter mlle of a seal
