Caribou has been my favourite since I first had it in the Yukon 15 years ago. Yeah, I wouldn't try and go out without poles, they tend to drive me nuts until I need them, but then I couldn't do it without them. We were definitly in a porcupine hot spot, they were funny and curious at first, then they ransacked camp, two of them duking it out in the tent vestibule over a coffee cup, ate anything plastic and almost came under the sod cloth. Actually, it was funny the whole time.

Reminds me of the Spatsizi area.

Never tried caribou but Eve(her dad was involved in hunting) tried it & preferred it over moose & especially deer.

The porcupines are a rare sight since they're mostly nocturnal & not too many around. Last one we saw was near Uslika Lake. It looked like a big, round & fat ball moving slowly & stopping every few seconds to look back.A totally harmless to people animal it seems unless provoked.

    I notice the trekking poles

We did fish a bit, but no luck. I've heard it's a greyling spawning area, and have also heard it's a tough lake for fishing.

Used to live in Cassiar working as a mining surveyor & use to drive down to Dease Lake, Spatsizi area & Telegraph Creek. Saw caribou crossing the roads occasionally, sometimes many in numbers.
