Probably not passable right now but then again there's not a lot of snow this winter, later in the summer it is an easy drive. There's a power generation facility on Big Silver almost up to Shovel Creek turnoff so the road gets well maintained at least that far. Shovel Creek through to Kookipi gets lots of use so I've found it's never left washed out for long. Most often it's an easy drive in 2 wheel and a lot of fun in beautiful country.
The first time we tried it was in April and the was still 6’ of snow in the pass. Second time I had a camper on top and it was too sketchy.... still haven’t made the full trip
