Tie your own can never go wrong and the sky is the limit with assortments . I have some chronies that crush most lakes
I see your in Langley, so I would go see the guys at Michael and Young in Surrey. They will sort you out with a great selection. Chironomids are a go-to, as well as leeches in various colours and sizes, woolly buggers etc. Also good to have some dries too.
Ive had most success with small bead-head leeches. They are super easy to tie and you can knock out a whole box full of various colours and sizes (black, olive, blood, black with sparkle) in one evening of tying. I like to tie some with weighted beads and some unweighted. You can use a floating line with a long leader, or an intermediate sink like and faster strips
M&Y in Walley has a ready made box of lake flies with probably a hundred flies in it for around $350-$400 if I remember correctly, though I'm sure you could take that box and make a deal to change out whatever you wanted.

Shopping time. Thanks.
Fly price sure seems to vary from place to place. 1-3$ depends where you go
Will need to dig out the fly tying kit I got for Christmas when I was a kid
Hares ear nymphs, gomphs style nymphs, tom thumb is a super versatile dry fly. Of coarse chronimides in all shades of colors. Smaller micro leaches in black, maroon, brown and olive. And also some shrimp patterns in olive.
That should pretty much start anyone off from interior lakes.
Damsel, dragonfly, boatman, small minnow patterns, caddie larva, and attractor style streamers to add to the list
Really I could add even more
Hook size?
Variety is the way to go for my leach patterns alone 16#- 3-0. You really just have to experiment and find what is best for that body of water at that time in the season
What I have figured out over the years when it comes to fishing most recommendations on what pattern or size of fly to use have more to do with the trends fishermen are following at that time.
I would say at the present time chronimids and leach patterns in smaller sizes under an indicator seems to be the Stillwater fad. It works but it is not always the best option
