Lots of diy type box plans on the internet but I ended up just strapping a plastic dog crate to the rear rack. I figured an enclosed space was better protection from whippy branches than some of the open box types. The rear cargo box now sits at home when Fido comes along in his crate. The emergency gear was minimized into a small pack that gets bungeed on top of the crate.
