Garmin Montana for me as well. It replaces an Oregon that served me well for many years. Topo Canada for map data. Much prefer dedicated GPS over phone.

I enjoy my Garmin Gpsmap 64st. I don't like touch screens, they seem to not work when I need them the most.

Obsolete Montana 600 with Backroads Mapbook. Not sure what they replaced it with.

If the alpine is steep it's pretty easy to find your way .... if its somewhat flat, it can be tricky. it all starts to look the same around you. Been there before. Not fun.
+1 1 in the 64, but... under $200? Really? When and where?

Easy to get overwhelmed with all the options
One needs to decide what basic function is needed
A basic etrex 10 will get you back to the truck, either with back track or if real adventurous, a straight line route )

    Amazon.ca ... $160 or $169.
Like Canadian tire, they have some good sales on there from time to time. I regret not ordering 2 of them right away

I’ve got a Etrex 10 and it tells me where I am, the map and compass takes me to where I want to go. Basically to me a GPS is just a quick and easy way to avoid doing a resection.

It is nice to have the ability to load tracks into Google Earth as well.

This is what I've been using for the last year or so. Logging tracks when wheeling or dirtbiking, dropping pins, etc, all while in airplane mode. It's awesome.
The only thing I like as much as trucks, is guns.

I'm a fan of my 64S. Just pack extra batteries in your pack incase and you're good to go. I've used mine for about 4-5 seasons now and never had any issue minus sometimes it's battery draining faster than I'd like
