    Garmin 78s.

Any gps will do, as long as you take a waypoint at your truck location, before you walk away.

I almost always use a compass (suunto mc2) to get back in unfamiliar ground. Take a bearing for your destination (truck) and compass back for the practice. Saves your batteries.

It’s also a good idea to turn it on when driving to your site with the tracking on. That way you can beeline for the road if it’s closer than overland back to your truck.

If it’s cold I sometimes have to keep my AA’s in my glove to keep them warm. Even if they are dead in the cold, you can get a little life out of them still, if you warm them up for a few minutes.

Fortunately the skies cleared momentarily enough for me to make a landmark and reach my vehicle before dark.

I had been using Google earth on my phone but didn't have a spare battery pack and was loosing battery to fast to use phone any longer.

I also had neglected to take my compass.

Anyway, I vowed to get a hand held GPS unit and am wondering what the other hunters are using. I don't want to just order one and find that it doesn't work well in BC's areas.

If I could get some recommendations and reasons why you purchased that unit, I'd appreciate it.

    Thank you

What did you end up getting? I'm about to buy the Garmin 64s with back roads maps bundle on sale for $350, can't seem to find it for any less at the moment.
