Grouse (or any upland bird) with a day trip from Vancouver?

    Hey everyone,

Looking to take my 8yr old and his single-shot .22 out for some grouse, rabbit or any upland game bird. We'd be heading out from Burnaby and would prefer a day trip as compared to an overnight.

I was going to go just the other side of Manning Park on the way to Princeton, but does anyone else have any other suggestions? I'm not looking for a honey spot or a place to limit out, just a place where the munchkin can have a chance at bagging 1 or 2 and be back home for bedtime. Road hunting bores him, but ATVing or hiking is fine (but remember, he's .

Much appreciated for anything anyone is willing to share.

    David

    Hi David,
Manning Park is quite a drive from Burnaby...
Try Squamish Valley FSRs (squamish river, Ashlu river, Elaho river) or try the logging road off the sea to sky by the casino (forestry road).
You could also try Harrison lake FSR east or West.

This is is an option ^^

but leaving the lower mainland will increase your odds with upland for one major reason to start with the hatch and survival rate increases in areas with a drier spring

Fraser canyon and other side of Manning should increase your success rate for this reason alone

Distance you are willing to travel is all up to you and areas with less hunters often means more birds

Not to be a dick, but "where the munchkin can have a chance at bagging 1 or 2 " is not legal, must be 10 in order to hunt.

That's not a dick move - that's "Save David an expensive ticket from a CO move" - I appreciate the information as I totally forgot to look it up.

In the meantime, he'll be happy to field dress the small game - he can shoot next year (birthday in October).

Again - thanks for this - didn't think to look it up myself.

Did you end up going out, any luck? I am thinking of taking my boys out this weekend for a day trip.

I'd like to see a regulation amendment that allows youth age 7+ to hunt small game

Good network of roads up by Boston Bar ... East Anderson / Natlahatch

Also once you cross the Alexander bridge across the Fraser to the right ... Siwash

Ended up scouting out around Squamish for a different reason. Depending on weather this weekend will either take the Munchkin up the Coquihalla and then maybe down to Tulameen or out to Boston Bar (will go left to scuzzy creek instead of right to Nahatlach). I also need to head out the whipsaw, so who knows where the drive will take us

Was just up at murray lake for the last 3 days, and saw 2-4 grouse per day.
