    Smoke in Dease Lake?

Anyone been up and back? With the Telegraph Creek fire raging and wind from the southwest I’m wondering if the mountains are terribly smoky? Particularly the Cassiar area. I’m headed up next week and will put it off if I need to.

Talked to Bill at BC Yukon. He’s not even flying right now. Says it’s clearing and should be going by the weekend.

There are several fires around Dease Lake. The closest one to Cassiar is the Elbow Lake fire just south of Dease Crossing. Yes the area is very smoky as the two biggest fires combined are at 29,000 ha just west of Dease Lake. If you can delay your trip, it might be a good idea. There still remains a chance of evacuation of Dease Lake but the WildFlire folks appear somewhat optimistic that it won't be necessary. The amount of air power (now flying out of Iskut) is impressive as these are now the biggest fires burning in BC. It definitely won't be the same hunting around this area this fall.

Look at the DRIVEBC webcam. The outfitter is right, it is good and bad. IMO the longer you can delay your trip, the better. Cassiar may not be as bad as it is further north. Good luck!

With everything going on there it might be best just to avoid the area.
