Spend it on fuel and time scouting, that makes the most difference of any hunt: time invested

Awesome. The most important item to have, you already have. Right between the ears.

Famous old golfer, Lee Trevino, when asked about the fairness of newly permitted square grooved irons on the professional golf tour, Trevino said to the interviewer, "Well, it ain't about the arrow. It's about the Indian"! Best of luck!

Spend about $1000- $1500 on a spotting scope and tripod. And $700- $1000 on binoculars. Much of the game you hunt in BC has a point restriction and what you spend on optics you’ll make back in time and many cases gas money. Then spend $1000 on some good clothing. Then spend $500 on a good pack frame and another $300 on a good day pack. Lastly spend the rest of your $$ on some light weight camping gear. And your ready to kill anything almost anywhere in BC.

Re: Getting started hunting - first $5000

You probably have most of what you need already. Go out hiking, bushwhacking, scouting. See what works and what doesn't. If it doesn't work ditch it and find what does. You come home cold wet and miserable, then buy something that will make you not so cold wet and miserable. A lot of this gear is highly personal. There seems to be a phenomenon where hunters seem to spend more money on gear the less successful they are. Like you can buy hunting success, you can't unless you hire a personal guide.

I think the bigger items are going to be optics , both spotter and binos. Pack. Tent. That’s probably going to get you petty close to $5k if not over. GPS. Camp gear. Boots. Clothing. If you have anything left over.
