a copy of the agreement in principle is posted in this thread. It contains legal framework and plans for FN self government, ownership over land and resources and consolidation of bands. which is in stage 5 treaty signing, finalizing step is next. Along with much of the parcels of land being handed out, aswell as their larger overall territory.
Right, and thanks for that Sirloin. I gave that stuff a read. It doesn't seem like it stipulates how the FN is to deal with BC resident hunters coming on to the FN settlement lands to hunt. Since that seemed to be one of people's primary concerns, I was just suggesting we look to how similar treaty nations have dealt with the issue in BC. The nisga'a issue their own licenses and appear to award certain species licences in a lottery.

    Anybody hunt Nisga'a land?

South Okanagan National park and Syilx hand over.

Ashnola, Snowy protected area, South Okanagan grass lands, Mt Kobau, White lake, Vaseux

The Natives are concerned about the areas OUTSIDE their new national park concept(a park they will have exclusive hunting rights to) after resident hunters are forced out.

Projects and development are already being held to these "asserted traditional territories" and remember, these are the larger territories that cover the entire province, and then some.

This is before any of these new consolidated nations and the crown sign their new treaties and agreements.

"Something" tells me that there are other area's in the Okanagan and elsewhere in BC that will be the "private" hunting grounds of the various bands, whatever they want really.
In some ways it resembles whats going on in South Africa....and to what Brian Amos said...time to wake up to whats going on.

Not sure what can be done to stop the bleeding other than "get informed" on the issue, remember, this is a government Federally and Provincially, that can't even manage a bug kill forest for the safety of its citizens.

Being informed is useless without follow up action.

So what do First Nations want?

Perhaps they never have and still have not given up the fight to regain full control of this Land?
Perhaps this is simply an extension of an undeclared "war", a relatively non-violent stage due to practicality.

Once Canadians' realize that First Nations are simply playing a waiting game with full intention to dismantle "Canada", to regain dominance, then this knowledge can be applied into action.

Canada, it's citizens and government, has the legal ability to direct future agreements away from current court decisions. The Law is Alive. The catch is that people will actually have to fight for their "Rights", something that almost no one is willing to do anymore.

In all cases, I ask a simple question: How can we have a "nation of government" inside the border of Canada, that is unelected, yet has control over a territory where I live and own a home?

The Okanagan Park Reserve is such a total shyte-show, even the people organizing the park do not know where the boundaries of the proposed park are. A Liberal MP (Fuhr, Lakecountry) said last Friday that ALL hunting would be banned inside the park.

This is quickly becoming an election issue, for both the province and the Feds. Please pressure your local candidate for the next provincial election (when it comes, hopefully sooner than later) and for sure, the local CPC candidate to shut this BS down.

FN want full control of natural resources in this province.
Control the land and you control everything on it.

FN would still be allowed to hunt, so not all....Stewart Phillip said we need this park due to global warming.
