Burbot and long are one and the same and seen a few colour phases
Looks similar to the ones we get in the Kootenays. No fight but excellent tablefare. We always fish creek and river mouths at night, weight, circle hook, some sort of bait and chuck it out. Put rod in rod holder and crack a cold one.
The only advantage to a light rifle is it's weight, all other advantages go to the heavier rifle..
We are not allowed Bait in rivers and streams here, so we are limited to fishing them in Lakes.
Like I said though, they will occasionally take a lure....

Way back when and on Kootenay lake, the way to fish for them was with just a chromed water pipe filled with lead and a treble hook with a piece of orange florescent surveyors tape attached to the opposite end. Send it to the bottom, bring it up a foot or two then jig it slowly. It worked so well that they were pretty well extirpated.
They'll never end hunting...may make it illegal, but they'll never really kill that way of life!

[QUOTE=rocksteady;2015964]I could be wrong but i thought artificials were still classed as bait therefore illegal.
Scented artificials are classed as bait you are correct
I have not tried it myself but know people who have had luck with unsented jigs but I have not tried it
Just have to be scented with non-natural scent, so chemical is fine. Soak em in wd40 if ya want HA
