Was hoping for a link to the research instead of posting here.

Sorry. The table didn't copy correctly from PDF

    Wisdom et al. 11
Table 1. Estimated probabilities (and approximate 95 percent Confidence Limits) of a flight response by elk and mule deer as a function of distance between animals and humans riding all-terrain vehicles (ATV), mountain bikes (BIKE), horses (HORSE), or hiking (HIKE). On average there were 128 deer or elk locations obtained during a given day of each off-road activity (treatment periods). During periods of no human activity (control periods), the null probability of a flight response is 0.05 (see text). Thus, any values >0.05 reflect an increased probability of a flight response in relation an off-road activity.

It's a first year review of what was to be a 4 year study...where is the rest of the study? The uk pamphlet is shit.

To to quote a stupid 90s movie. "Show me the science "

Need to see the hunters numbers....on foot, horse, atv or combination. It is probably the reason after the first week most ungulates are nocturnal ....makes you wonder how much calorie loss as they are going into winter happens when the Elk are trying to not get shot?

Cut a dozen roads across any mountain in BC and by the time those critters go down for water, they get their asses kicked.
Give hunters a early season and stretch out the end, what do you have? Declining game populations.
Throw in a increase in predation and fail to recognize their potential, more decline.
Spice it up with a little development and agriculture fencing, flip it over and add some increased opportunity, then dig your teeth
    into that can of Spam.
But hey lets keep saying it's all good.

Why do you think the Fed has a hard time rallying up the Troops, represent the resident hunter
and listen to what they see out there, or keep studying it to Zero.

Wildlife Restoration will never happen without dealing with all the drivers, Habitat doesn't change over night, but our populations have.
    Could we be missing something?

Horsh, dana and bow rock, we need reality folks! Fences, roads, you name it, the real issues sometimes get pushed aside.
Jel -- any study that helps the mule deer in BC is worth it, we all learn by relating and interacting, yet the graphs and stats from other studies can distort reality a bit.
-- I would stick to the area in this study the OK and deal with the local herds and what they have to encounter thru out the year with humans they live by

Moving forward the powers that be need to addmit that lack of predator management is/was a huge factor in the caribou decline and if we continue on the same path mule deer will suffer the same fate. Period!

If on going predator management is out if the question then shut down the entire wilderness (parks included) forever to everyone, close and deactivate all roads and hwys and set the entire thing on fire. Let nature “look after after it self unhindered and obstructed by the influence of anything from Mankind.
