Chironimids are a staple in lakes, but a boat is best for this style of fishing. Hares ear nymphs, small leech patterns and tom thumbs for top water action are great to carry with you. Small ponds/lakes and creeks with little pressure are easier to target trout as they are less selective. Spring fishing is usually sub surface then once the weather warms you can fish dries to imitate midges, mosquitoes, caddis ect.
