Re: Use of hunting fees in Alberta

Alberta puts forward programs like this to encourage landowners to have a more positive view on hunting in hopes of it increasing possibility of hunter access

Just like landowners can loose compensation for livestock/crop damage for refusing all hunting. They don’t have to allow every hunter that asks but if proven to refuse all no compensation will be given

They are also not allowed to charge hunters to hunt their land. This is not the case in BC

Some Alberta hunters may not like it but these programs have reasons

Certainly there are reasons, and some form of compensation is obviously required.
But I do tend to agree with the majority of hunters I know over there.
They are (rightfully IMO) downright pissed off that the funding ($ 400,000 last year) comes from hunting tags funds.
Should be coming from their agricultural ministry.
Hunters do not own the predators, and should not be paying for their damages, Period.
