Those are nice lakers but nothing crazy (not insulting your fish Willyqbc) and I bet I know the lake

You need to check out some of the lakes up north for Lakers lol

Lots of lakes 20lbs Lakers are not unusual not a given but not lacking. Biggest I know of this summer was claimed to break 50lbs and seen some honest to god 35lbs+ Lakers this summer caught myself

As for age they are slow growers is all I know
I totally agree with all of this! The lake is Quesnel Lake. Nice lakers yes, but as wild one said.... cant be compared to many northern lakes.

That being said, i truly believe that in the depths of this lake there lives a population of deep dwelling crankers that come up to practical fishing depths very rarely. in 4 years of intensive fishing of this lake I have hooked but not landed 2 fish that felt like a decent halibut....both hooked below 500'. I suspect to have success on these deep dwellers requires a very very specific technique....just havent quite worked it out yet...but I'm workin on it!

Knew it was Quesnel Lake and don’t doubt it hides some tanks

The 50lbs laker I heard rumours of was out of Francois Lake and would be insane for that lake. Over 35lbs get caught every year but those are far and few between so over 50lbs is nuts.

So educate me here ..... how does a lake trout feed itself if it lives at 200+ feet. I imagine it's total darkness and they find fish to eat by vibration/sound?

.... but that brings up a second point ..... i didn't think baitfish lived that deep down. I thought they preferred the warmer waters closer to the surface?

Lakers are not always at 200+ feet you can find them shallow at times but at least where I fish 50-300 is most likely

As for food down deep they eat other lakers, burbout, and Kokanee for staters. Lakers are savage in the size of fish the will eat as well.

You guys are tempting me to brave some scetchy ice to catch some now lol

My personal belief about the lakers living way down deep is that the super cold waters slow their metabolism and they come up to shallower waters infrequently to gorge themselves, then head back to the deep waters. There is a deep dwelling strain in the great lakes they call "siskowet" that is super fatty and seems to display this type of behavior.

Wild one....a bunch of those lakes behind francois hold big fish as well im told...25lbs not uncommon at all!

Lots of lakes in this area hide big Lakers but look at the size and depth of a lot of lakes here along with the number of them

Even burns lake which most think is just full of pike minnow holds big Lakers but few people know how to catch them. 36lber came into the dock well I was tubeing last summer

Average Lakers for most lakes is still only 6lbs to 10lbs but no doubt huge ones are lurking around. Locals that are laker freaks seem to pull 20lbs fish commonly. I am not that good though lol
