nice fish. How do you fish for these trout and char? Downriggers? how deep down? What do they feed deep down in the lakes, baitfish?

the rainbows can be anything from superfast troll on the surface to dragging hoochies or apex's as deep as 100+ feet, caught a nice 10+ at 110 feet last summer. Key for them in this lake is to troll fast.....real fast.... 3.5 to 5+ mph. Gotta run heavy downrigger balls to keep the gear down...i use 15lb'ers and thin braid downrigger cable to try and keep the swing to a minimum.

The majority of char we catch with a real slow troll with spoons trying to bump the downrigger ball off the bottom....have caught them shallow but generally 175-225 feet works best. have landed char from as deep as 350+ feet and have twice hooked crankers I didn't land from 500+ feet. Jigging can be dynamite as well but with a bait ban in this lake it takes a very specific jigging technique.


we have found char to feed on kokanee, rainbows, other char, pea chubb (i think they are called), and other aquatic goodies like leeches snails etc....basically any meat they can get the teeth into!

Nice fish, I do have to laugh abit, a lot of the pics make out you are smiling, but really you are grinding your teeth because the fish are heavy, especially the fat ******* lings. look what happens when we get older, cant hold up the lunkers any more

It was also great to get the boy out at a time the seas were calm and the fish were close. Here, we've returned to the dock by 7:00 with our limits on Springs:

Bloody bellies

I believe they are a strain of their own. The fish biologist describes them as a "genetically unique, late maturing strain"
Wish i had some pics of the bigger ones ive caught, but its pretty much all catch and release and fishing by myself i tend to be more concerned with not stressing the gish after a long fight and generally dont want to lay em on the deck for pics.

Hahaha.....ya they do seem to get heavier as we get older.....but I am also not much for smiling...LOL!! The lings and the fat tyee were heavy, the rest of the smileys were easier!!
