Transporting Firearms into the USA for hunting

I was recently told that you no longer need a permit to transport a rifle into the US if you are going hunting.

Can someone with recent experience comment ?

Still need a permit but the requirement to have a hunting licence has changed. All explained on the ATF website.

It took me 12 business days to be issued a 6NIA back in November this year.
