    What a beauty. Ive been seeing alot of pics of that guy lately. I can only imagine how many targets are on him for next season

    This ram is only 5 years old. Typical length for that age in that area. The first growth ring just below his eye is actually his lamb tip. Thats where a lot guys get tripped up. The rams there can have 5-6 inch lamb tips. Way differnt then ageing thinhorn sheep.

    can you help me understand where I went wrong in my counting?
    (I actually wanted to say 6.5......finger error, but I am still wrong apparently....)
    just hoping you could help me out....below is a photo with "my annuli interpretation"...just want to know where
    I am wrong is all....thanks

    What you marked as the sixth annuli is not a year end growth ring. Look at how distinct and dark the previous five rings are compared to what you marked as the sixth.

    This is a five year old ram.

    Also consider the growth rate. For your analysis to be correct, such a fast growing ram for the first five years would have to suddenly turn into a very slow growing ram in year 5-6, 6-7. This would be very unusual unless he became sick or injured after age five.
