    Bedded buck

Have you or could you shoot a bedded buck with a bow? I ask because my first 4 point with a bow was bedded when I stumbled into him. What happened next was the most nerve racking 2 minutes of us staring at each other at 26 yards until he got up and stood broadside.

I don’t like bedded shots......the shoulder is often back covering some of the vitals. It is an easier/better shot if they are standing.

I've passed on shots only to regret in the last few days of the season.

Consider the direction of view and the angle, it may be similar to any shot from a high stand.

To further my comment on not liking shots with the Bow on bedded animals, the animal is usally laying partially on it’s side......making double lung hits less likely. It is also more difficult to visualize the arrow path as the animal’s head and neck is usually up, but the body severely leaned over with the shoulder and leg covering up much of the heart/lung vitals.

Grizzly was standing up digging, broadside at 13 yards. Had to allow for near shoulder/leg moving by holding back just a little.

Bedded shots are tricky, if the deer bounces at the shot you may get a lot more tracking than you hoped for (if you are lucky). I watched a hunter fire a bolt at a bedded deer facing him. At the shot the deer sprung and instead of a lung shot he got a gut shot with just enough of the liver to spend that day and well into the next tracking... recovered his deer but it was messy and time consuming.
