Carrying a rifle with an external frame pack

    How do you do it?

I've got a badlands ox, and I find that if I sling my rifle over my shoulder like I would with my daypack on, I get the 'clink clink clink' of barrel tapping the frame as I walk. I don't want to strap the rifle to the back of the pack, since I'd like to have it quick to hand. I ended up last week hooking the sling over the top of the frame, on the left side, with the rifle forward, between the frame and my body. That worked, kept the bolt from tapping the frame, but I still didn't love it.
    Anyone have any tricks?

Small rubber hose around the frame?

If your pack has bullhorns (removing the click-in top bar) like my cabelas packframe, just sling it over and keep rifle in front of shoulder. Makes for very fast deployment as well. Had a buddy whose frame was fixed round so he simply used a nice strong piece of wood that he lashed onto the top right of his frame to do the same - worked great. No slipping off shoulder and no carrying arm fatigue. No part of my gun touches frame other than the sling.

Bingo. Best bet for carrying a rifle and a pack. Super slick.

Not the first I've heard of this doer, but the first time I've seen "universal" attached to it.
Anyone know if there's a site sponsor that's selling these, or do I need to order straight from Kifaru?

Kifaru works incredibly well. Gun weight goes onto your hip and time to your shoulder is about 2 seconds.

You can only get them from Kifaru. You need to order the Universal so it can fit on whatever pack you have, as opposed to just the "gun bearer", which is Kifaru Pack specific.

Or make your own with a few feet of webbing and a couple of buckles

Another diy is a hook that mounts to the frame vertical tube above your shoulder
Like mentioned, out of wood, or metal tubing or something from the hardware section
Not actually hand-free, but takes the load and is easy to 'bring to bear' )
