Alpaca wool

Is anyone using Alpaca wool clothes? My in laws bought me some Alpaca wool socks and a bit of research from hiking sites indicates Alpaca wool may be superior to merino in some ways. Curious if anyone has any experience with Alpaca wool?

It's super warm, soft and light. But not durable. My buddies mom owns an alpaca ranch and makes toques. It also sheds water like nobodies business and never really gets wet or cold.

I used to work on an Alpaca Ranch... its very nice stuff... but not durable enough for hunting situations.. Its more for the fluffy city folks..
