    The wood is all cedar, with different colour variations within the wood. The outward face of the box is the rough side of cedar fence boards. It definitely takes up a lot more of the stain. The 2 x 4 used on one of the legs was a lot darker in colour too.

    And the stain I used was leftover from the vertical parts of my deck. Cetol 23 in cedar colour.
