    Fishing Cowichan lake

Hello anglers! I'm wanting to take my young family fishing on Cowichan lake, I'm looking for tips on gear and maybe some spots.
Details, we will be there 10-13th of July. We have a 13ft thorn with an 8 horse on it. I have both fly and spin casters with the basic gear. We will be around pine point and maple grove on the yobou side.
What setups would be good for this scenario and depths.
Your input would be most welcome to help my son be successful.
    Thanks

Fishing can be tough in the summer when the weather's hot. Best bet is early morning or late evening. Concentrate on the edge of the drop off. Cutthroat are the most prevalent in there and they love to eat stickle back, so small spoons, tomic wee tads, flatfish are all good bets. If fishing mid day a little weight doesn't hurt or downriggers if you have them, down as deep as 50 feet. For flies, troll with large leeches, black or dark green on a heavy sinking line. If you have a dry line, chironomids in the creek mouths will fish well for rainbows. Or dry flies if you see fish rising; I like deer hair flies like the tom thumb for that. Not likely to catch one of the lunkers we get in the winter there, but should be able to get into some 12-16" fish. Good luck.

Are there many large trout in Cowichan?
When in doubt, just pin it.

As good as anything this time of year. During the cooler months most guys use plugs to target the large cutthroat. Unfortunately too many guys still keep those big trout.

Thanks for all the info fellas. We didn't have much luck but had a good time on the water. Got rough in the evenings as expected, lost my craw fish trap too.
