    Radios / Walkie Talkies...Suggestions?

What do people use/recommend when out in the field? Spending days on atv, need a good radio for communication with hunting partner...ones that need to be solid in the mountains and ridges etc...

    Thanks in advance.

I bought a set of Midland GXT's last year. A few too many bells and whistles but in simple mode they have been great.

Licensed handheld VHF. Pretty well mandatory if you're traveling FSRs with active logging.

Got some Back Country Access radios on order. Little bulkier, but all the sledders rock them.

You can bet a decent pair of 5 watt UHF/VHF units from Amazon for $100. Well worth the money when you're staring at a loaded trucking coming down the hill at you.

We use Baofeng UV-82hp great Radios, they seem to have no problems with a range of 6-10 miles in the bush,
totally programmable and use the same software as kenwood,
    great economy radio.

I bought HAM radios to use as two way walkie talkies .... not exactly legal if you don't have a amateur radio license, but they are 5W instead of the typical 0.5W walkie talkies and they work pretty well. I just keep them on an obscure frequency that no one else uses.

I can talk to my old man up to about 3km away (depending on terrain).

They are like these ones here .... about 60 bucks each

how are you guys getting such good range from the Baofengs .... mine cannot go that far. What settings do you have them on?

Edit: it seems your model is 7Watt, compraed to mine at 5Watt. I wonder if that's the only diff.
